'A scene of death'

A scene of death is an installation made to look like a theatre stage displaying  'A scene of death'. It is meant to represent grief and mourning including elements of mourning rituals from different cultures. This piece was heavily inspired by the day of the dead holiday, where the living world lay out food and drink to welcome the spirits of their loved ones home. I added elements of mourning rituals from my Cypriot background including traditional food and drinks. I wanted the installation to show grief as something to celebrate and offer a new perspective to death and mourning.

'Momento Mori'

Memento mori was created as part of an installation on death and mourning. It was made to reference vanitas paintings that focused on the idea of life, death and time. I named the piece 'Memento Mori', a Latin phrase that means remember to die.

Saint Medusa

Saint Medusa is a painting diptych that retells the story of medusa’s in the style of Greek orthodox religious icons. It combines mythological worship with religious worship. Through this diptych, I repositioned Medusa in the context of a religious icon to force Medusa to be in a position of exaltation, shifting her power to that of adoration than fear. I intended to consider mythical figures in a contemporary guise and reimagine them and their stories through a feminist lens, forcing people to reconsider the idea of devotion.

Vertigo

Vertigo is an installation piece that utilises optical illusions to create a vertigo inducing room to demonstrate my experience with vertigo. I hung optical illusion paintings from the wall on one side of the room, allowing the works to swing a little to further implement a feeling of dizziness, as well as a projection of optical illusion paintings on another wall, a big painting on another and around 100 lino prints pinned on the last wall. I had the lights off but used 2 coloured LED lights that slowly flashed between colours as well as the light from the projection to light the room and had a mirror in one cornerof the room to reflect the illusions of the room. I wanted to use optical illusions to help recreate the feeling i have when i feel dizzy and create an installation that allows people to step into that feeling.

Mount Olympus

Ace of Hearts

Mount Olympus is a Greek Mythology drawing designed to represent the main gods and goddesses in Greek Mythology. I drew them to represent what they are the god or goddess of, and placed them within Mount Olympus. I wanted to create a piece that brings all the figures together and tells all their stories in once place.

Ace of hearts was an experiment using the trompe l'oeil painting technique.
